Skid-steers on the rise in China

By Chris Sleight |  4 June 2019

Demand for skid-steer loaders in China has risen sharply over the last two years and reached just over 1,800 units in 2018. The market is served by some 20 suppliers, 15 of which manufacture in China. The list of domestic producers now includes Bobcat, which opened a factory in Suzhou and 2017.

Off-Highway Research expects sales of skid-steer loaders to continue to rise over the next five years, despite a downturn in the wider equipment. The company’s Equipment Analysis on the skid-steer loader industry in China said, “The forecast is based on major demand from the infrastructure sectors, which will continue to be supported by public investments. In addition, the diversified applications being developed by rental companies should also help expand the market.”

However, it should be noted that skid-steer loaders sell in relatively small numbers in China and account for only around 5 per cent of the compact equipment segment.
