Fresh insights on the Chinese wheeled loader industry

By Chris Sleight |  27 May 2020

China has been the largest wheeled loader market in the world since 1999 and accounted for 48 per cent of global demand in 2019. Combined output from more than 20 domestic producers – both indigenous and international OEMs – totalled 123,800 units, 91,500 of which were sold in China. Wheeled loader exports from China accounted for 28 per cent of demand in the rest of the world last year.

These are some of the key findings of Off-highway Research’s new equipment analysis on the wheeled loader industry in China. The 65-page study looks at the structure of the market, market shares, production and production shares, component sourcing, pricing, end-user segments and provides a five-year forecast.

As discussed in the forecast section, demand for wheeled loaders declined steeply in the first quarter of the year due to the Covid-19 outbreak. The market bounced back in April and sales this year are expected to reach 86,000 units. A key factor moving forward will be the introduction of the China IV emissions laws, and the impact of these is also discussed in the report.
