Off-Highway Research’s new report, The Asphalt Finisher Industry in India, paints an up-beat picture of the market for pavers over the next three years. With sales having fallen in 2019 due to the General Election and in 2020 because of the Covid pandemic, growth is expected to resume this year.
The report said, “Construction and maintenance of all types of roads, national and state highways, and urban and rural roads will contribute to sales of asphalt finishers, although the major driver for growth will be national and state highways with consistent demand for smaller pavers for urban and rural roads.
“Among all infrastructure sectors, roads has been the best performing over the past few years. Many road projects at the national, state and rural levels that are expected to be executed in the next five years, and will continue to drive demand for asphalt finishers.”
However, the report sounded a note of caution in light of India’s on-going struggle with the Covid pandemic. “The biggest challenge for infrastructure growth today is the rising cases of Covid-19 throughout the country. Many cities are under night curfew now and restrictions are being enhanced. Workers have already begun to migrate from urban areas to their home locations amidst fear of a lockdown and safety concerns.”
