Consolidated European grader report published

By Chris Sleight |  28 June 2021

Off-Highway Research has published a new report on the European motor grader industry, which for the first time covers the region as a whole. Previous reports focussed on the grader industry in individual European countries.

Motor graders are a niche product in Europe, with only around 200 units sold each year across the region. It therefore made sense to consolidate the previous national reports into a single regional study, which would be more coherent and useful for clients.

Germany and France are historically the largest markets in Europe for graders, together accounting for 50-60 per cent of the region’s sales. Austria is traditionally the third most important market, although still only accounts for some 10 per cent of regional sales. The motor graders operating in Europe range from the smallest 13 tonne models with engines of 140 horsepower, to those weighing nearly 23 tonnes with engines of 230 horsepower.

Commenting on the outlook for the market, the report said, “The European market for motor graders is a mature one and the pattern of demand now depends almost entirely on the replacement cycle. The declining number of new road building projects throughout the region inevitably dictates that there is little prospect of any growth in demand for graders in the foreseeable future, and it is the belief of some suppliers that the overall market may undergo a moderate decline in the medium to long term.”

Off-Highway Research’s new equipment analysis on the motor grader industry in Europe is now available to download for subscribers to the European Service, who can login here. It can also be bought by non-subscribers here.

It is believed to be the most detailed and in-depth report ever published on the subject, with analysis covering market size, market shares, market structure, distribution networks, end customer groups, equipment population, machines available and a five-year forecast.
