2. Chinese skid-steer loader industry continues to grow

The Chinese market for skid-steer loaders recorded further good growth in 2020 when for the first time domestic sales exceeded 2,000 units, a milestone that was achieved in spite of the impact of Covid-19 in the first quarter of the year.

The market size has doubled over the last five years, a feat that has been greatly helped by Bobcat’s decision in 2017 to manufacture locally. With the more affordable models becoming available on the market, new applications of earthmoving and site clearance are being explored, and there has been some success in broadening the product’s range of applications.

In addition to the increased acceptance by Chinese users, production of skid-steer loaders in China is being driven by export sales. Last year Chinese skid-steer loader exports exceeded 3,000 units for the first time.
