Infrastructure spending is expected to drive growth in demand for compaction equipment in the UK over the next five years. This is expected to see sales of ride-on equipment rise more than 25 per cent by 2021, compared to the demand which was seen in 2016.
“The government has published a new National Infrastructure and Construction Pipeline, setting out over £500 billion worth of planned private and public investment over this Parliament and beyond, with more than 40 per cent of the pipeline being delivered thanks to government investment,” said the report.
The rise in sales is expected despite fairly robust market growth over the last three years. However, at the same time consolidation among equipment rental companies has seen the size of the UK compaction equipment fleet decline. This has left the country with a fleet of relatively young machines, but one which is arguably too small for the pipeline of work ahead.
As in other parts of Europe, by far the most popular ride-on machines in the UK in volume terms are tandem rollers of 3 tonnes or less.
