High sales seen continuing in Chinese asphalt finisher market

By Chris Sleight |  20 June 2022

With more than 2,500 machines sold per annum, China has been comfortably the largest asphalt paver market in the world over the last three years. According to Off-Highway Research’s new report, The Asphalt Finisher Industry in China, although the cyclical upturn and then stimulus spending which drove such high sales has now passed, the market is expected to remain at reasonable volumes over the medium term.

“It is likely that annual demand for asphalt finishers will be in the range of 2,000 and 2,400 units in the next five years, with sales reducing in 2022 and 2023 when the market weakens and is in transition to China Stage IV (new emissions standard), before picking up again,” said the report.

However, the report added that the on-going difficulties China is facing with the Covid pandemic and generally unstable global geopolitical picture both add uncertainty to the forecast.
