Stability seen ahead in German dump truck market

By Chris Sleight |  5 January 2021

The market for dump trucks in Germany reached a remarkable peak in 2019 before falling sharply last year. Sales are expected to show some improvement in 2021, with demand stabilising over the long term at around 300 rigid and articulated machines per year.

Off-Highway Research’s new equipment analysis on the dump truck industry in Germany said, “In contrast to other product sectors, the market for articulated dump trucks suffered a decline of around 50 per cent in the first eight months of 2020 following the unusually high level of sales in 2019. The general consensus among suppliers interviewed by Off-Highway Research is that the market has entered a period of consolidation.

“The medium-term outlook for the articulated dump truck sector is more optimistic, however, and the market is unlikely to undergo a significant fluctuation in demand for the foreseeable future. The volume of ongoing infrastructure projects is likely to sustain a stable level of demand for new machines and an acceptable level of replacement business during the forecast period.”
